Auto Village proposes to have about 80 vehicle showrooms and workshops of all automobile brands

You may no longer have to wait for the biennial Auto Expo to explore automobiles of all brands at one location. Haryana is working on the proposal from a private company that wants to set up an Auto Village over more than hundred acres of land.

Auto Village proposes to have about 80 vehicle showrooms and workshops of all automobile brands across industry segments (cars, two wheelers, three wheelers, commercial vehicles and tractors, etc) at one location, an RTO, recycling units, test tracks, new vehicle launch zone, financing institutions, component shops, petrol pumps, hotels and an amusement park. In addition to this facility, another land parcel of over hundred acres will be used to develop a residential project targeting thousands of people who will be employed in the Auto Village.

Himanshu Narayan, the director of Auto Village, said he has received offers for land parcels from a few private owners but the facility could also come up on a land purchased from the state government. “All I can say is the first facility will come in the national capital region in the state of Haryana and not more than hundred kilometres away from Delhi”, he said.

Auto Village, which is in talks with the state, has sought waiver of VAT and vehicle registration charges from the Haryana government to make prices attractive and pull buyers from city-based showrooms. “This will give a new direction to the automobile industry in the country. Buyers will have the advantage of comparing and test driving different brands at one location, securing finance and then driving out with a registered vehicle. Rio Olympics: Spirited Sakshi Malik ends India's medal drought with a bronze in wrestling

A diminutive 23-year-old girl from Mokhra village near Rohtak in Haryana, Sakshi Malik, touched glory at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday by reaching out and grabbing the only medal India has been able to win at the 31st Olympiad.

What's even more astonishing and historic is that she is the only Indian woman wrestler to have ever won a medal at the Olympic games.

Sakshi brought an end to India's long medal wait, when every hopeful had failed one by one. She clinched the bronze in the Women's Freestyle 58kg category with a spirited comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.

The young wrestler overturned a 0-5 deficit in a hectic second round to script an 8-5 victory in the medal bout at the Carioca Arena 2 here.

Justice S N Dhingra, who was appointed to probe issues concerning the grant of license(s) for developing commercial colonies in Gurgaon Sector 83 by Haryana’s Department of Town and Country Planning, on Thursday asked for more time to submit the report.

Justice Dhingra, who was meant to submit on Friday a report on whether Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, was the beneficiary of a sweetheart deal when her party was in power, said that he needs an extension of six more weeks.

What the allegations are

The alleged scam revolves around Haryana-cadre IAS officer Ashok Khemka, Vadra, and the latter's company.

The company in question is Skylight Hospitality, which bought a 3.5-acre plot in Shikohpur village near Manesar. The same plot was later sold to DLF at a huge profit.

According to a report by Tehelka magazine, the land in question, purchased by Vadra's company for around Rs 7 crore, was sold to DLF for an amount of Rs 58 crore. The report added that in the period between its purchase and sale, the then Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government in the state granted a Change of Land Use (CLU) permission for the land. Due to the CLU permission, the report said that the value of the plot of land in question shot up sharply.

Alleging various irregularities, Khemka, in late 2012, set aside the mutation of the property sold by Vadra to DLF. However, the then Congress-run state government later gave a clean chit to Vadra. Read More.
