Rohit Sharma scored his 18th ODI century and turned the match into a one-sided affair.
India vs England : India, led by Rohit Sharma's century, crushed England by 8 wickets in the first ODI match, chasing the target in just 40.1 overs.
Chasing the target of 269 runs, India had a flying start as openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made the most of the English bowling that proved ineffective to deter the two from taking the charge.
It was a one-sided affair, right from the start. Dhawan scored 40 runs in 27 balls, an inning dominated by eight boundaries.
India, throughout their inning, maintained the run rate of over 6 per over that enabled them to reach the target with 9.5 overs to spare.
After that, Rohit took the charge in his hands and while England looked busy in trying to trap him, Kohli swung into action and added runs from the other end.
Virat Kohli departed after smashing a brilliant knock of 75 runs in 82 balls with the help of seven boundaries.
Rohit Sharma scored his 18th ODI century and even after that continued his assault on English bowlers, settling 137 runs in 114 balls. After Kohli, he was joined by Lokesh Rahul who did not have much to worry as the earlier batsmen had already done the needful.
Even Kohli's departure could not provide England with the much-needed relief as the Englishmen knew that it was too late, hence, a low celebration took place when Kohli, in a rare case, was stumped off Adil Rashid's delivery.
India's batsmen did not face much resistance from England bowlers and thus, the batting looked smooth and inning's flow remained intact.
